It has been 10 years since Annette Gomez, LDA, or legal document assistant, of Just Document Preparation started preparing legal documents for her clients. My service provides an affordable alternative to the traditional attorney service. We save people thousands of dollars in attorney fees and allow our customers to stay in control of their legal matters. I support the idea that everyone should have access to the legal system.

There is a lot of confusion about what an LDA does. LDAs are required to be registered and bonded, and have a level of legal experience and/or education. Formerly, this profession was known as independent paralegals, becoming legal document assistants in 2000. Because Gomez is not an attorney, she cannot give legal advice or represent people in court. When clients need guidance or representation, Gomez refers then to qualified and compassionate lawyers.

More than 50 percent of the documents Just Document Preparation prepares are for family matters: divorce, custody, support, visitation, pension divisions, etc. Living trusts and bankruptcy petitions are also routinely prepared along with probate, adoption, guardianship and most other court documents. “If we can’t do it, we will refer you to a professional who can” said Gomez.”I love what we do and what we represent,” Gomez said.

Annette Gomez is a board member of the California Association of Legal Document Assistants, vice-president of the Inland Empire chapter, member of the National Association of Legal Document Preparers and was an advisory board member with Maric College for their legal assistant program. Gomez shares her office, located upstairs in the First Bank & Trust Bldg., with an attorney, Brian Workman and a CTEC registered tax preparer, Lourdes D. Mendoza-Witty, located at 7710 Limonite Avenue, Suite N, and can be reached at (951) 685-5444. You can get more information at www.JustDocumentPreparation.com
